Devin Star Tailes, or Dev, is a rapper and hip hop artist who was born in Tracy, California, on July 2, 1989. Dev posted some of her songs on Myspace, and she was quickly discovered by several high profile figures in the music industry. Dev would officially sign her first record contract with Universal Republic in 2010. After spending a year creating music, Dev would release her debut album, "The Night the Sun Came Up", in August 2011. "The Night the Sun Came Up" would receive favorable reviews from the music critics, which would help it peak at number 61 on the US music charts nearly one year after the album was first released. "The Night the Sun Came Up" would also manage to hit the music charts in Canada and the United Kingdom. Dev would take some time off from music after having her first child on December 24, 2011. She would eventually release an extended play, "Bittersweet July," that featured five new songs in July 2014. The extended play was only available via digital download. The extended play would fail to reach the music charts in any country, but it would become the 16th best dance album in the United States during its peak. Dev has been nominated for two Billboard awards during her career, but she failed to win either award. Her song "Like a G6" was nominated for Best Rap Song in 2011, and her song "In the Dark" earn a nomination for Best Dance Song in 2012.
