Kasabian is a rock band that started performing together in Leicestershire, England, in 1997. Kasabian currently consists of lead singer Tom Meighan, bassist Chris Edwards, drummer Ian Matthews and guitarist Sergio Pizzorno. The founding members met and became friends while attending college, and they quickly decided to form their own band. Kasabian's self-titled debut album would be released over seven years after the formation of the band in September 2004. The album received solid reviews from the music critics, which would help it peak at number four on the UK music charts. The album also hit number 94 in the United States. Kasabian would release their second album, "Empire", in August of 2006. "Empire" peaked at number one in the UK, and it has currently sold over 1 million copies worldwide. The band would release their third album, "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum", in June 2009. The album would receive great reviews from the critics, and it would once again hit number one in the UK and do favorably in markets outside of their home country. Kasabian would have their third #1 album when they released "Velociraptor!" in September 2011. The album would once again receive positive reviews and commendable sales throughout the world. "Velociraptor!" has currently sold just under 300,000 copies in the United Kingdom. Kasabian's fifth album, "48:13", would become the band's fourth straight to hit number one in the UK when it was released in June 2014. Kasabian's biggest award victory came in 2010 when they were named Best British Group at the Brit Awards.
