Luis Alfonso Rodríguez López-Cepero was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and later move to Orlando, Florida where he was raised. This Latin pop singer began his career in 1998 under the stage name Luis Fonsi. Instead of setting out to make music after graduating high school, Fonsi chose to educate himself and accepted a scholarship to the Florida State University School of Music. After graduating, Fonsi went looking for a music label and landed at Universal Music Latino. His first release under his new label was the debut album entitled Comenzaré (I Will Begin) (1998). The new album was a critical and commercial success, landing at No. 27 on the Billboard Latin Albums Chart. His follow-up album, Eterno (2000), would be the piece of work that would set him on the path to international fame. Not only did the new album peak at No. 6 on the US Billboard Latin Albums Chart and No. 2 on The US Pop chart, but it crossed over to Europe and South America where it picked up significant airplay. From this point on, Fonsi's music would become a familiar entry on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart as well as the US Pop and US Latin music charts. The albums Amor Secreto (2000), Palabras del Silencio (2008) and Tierra Firme (2011) all hit No. 1 on the Latin and Pop charts while breaking into the Billboard Hot 200 albums Chart at Nos. 109, 15 and 56, respectively. Additionally, he has had six No. 1 hit singles on the Latin Singles Chart. These songs include "Imaginame Sin Ti", "Abrazar la Vida", "Nada Es Para Siempre", "No Me Doy Por Vencido", Latin Grammy Best Song winner "Aquí Estoy Yo" and "Tu Amor".
