The Spanish singer and songwriter Melendi was born Ramón Melendi Espina in 1979. His early interest in flamenco, rumba and street sounds eventually matured into his current Latin-pop style. Melendi recorded a solo demo in 2001 that attracted the attention of Carlito Records. Carlito Records subsequently signed Melendi and released his first two albums. The first solo album, “Sin noticias de Holanda,” was released in 2003 and received a boost when the Vuelta a Espaňa bicycle race chose a song from the album as its theme. The resulting popularity led to gold status album sales and a successful Spanish tour in 2004. Melendi continued his success in 2005 with the release of his second album, “Que el cielo espere sentao.” This album yielded the single “Caminando por la vida,” which won the Onda award for Best Song of the Year. Melendi also saw both of his first two albums reach multi-platinum sales. “Mientras no cueste trabajo,” Melendi’s third album, was released in 2006. This album and the single “Calle la Pantomima” gained several award nominations from Los Premios 40 Principales, including Best Spanish Song and Best Spanish Album. The video for the single won the award for Best Spanish Video. Melendi hit number one with his fourth album “Curiosa la cara de tu padre” in 2008, and followed with a Spanish and Latin American tour. He continued to release albums at two-year intervals, with “Volvamos a empezar” in 2010, “Lágrimas desordenadas” in 2012, and “Un alumno más” in 2014. Melendi has proven to be a popular tour headliner, receiving Los Premios 40 Principales Award nominations for Best Tour five times from 2007 to 2013. He launched a “10th Anniversary Tour” in 2014, offering fans a retrospective of his life’s work.
