In the mid to late 1980s, the German duo known as Modern Talking dominated the German music charts. It was during this time, that they became one of Germany's most popular duos of all-time. Modern Talking featured Thomas Anders as the lead vocalist and Dieter Bohlen on guitar. It didn't take long for this duo to make their mark on the charts. They came together in 1984 and signed their first record deal with the Hansa label. The duo's debut album entitled The 1st Album was released in April of 1985. The record shot straight to the top of the German Albums chart while also establishing popularity in most parts of Europe. The album also spawned two No. 1 hit singles. The first song released was "You're My Heart, You're My Soul", which sold over 8 million copies worldwide, earning it a place on the singles charts in at least 35 different countries. The second single was "You Can Win If You Want", which fared almost as well as the first single.
Striking while the iron was hot, Modern Talking came back six months later with their second album Let's Talk About Love. The album debuted at No. 1 in Germany a provided the duo with another No. 1 hit single called "Cheri, Cheri Lady". Over the next two years, Modern Talking produced four more albums (two No. 1s) and two more No. 1 hit singles before deciding to call it quits to pursue solo careers.
In 1998, Modern Talking made a spectacular comeback with the album Back for Good, which sold over 3 million copies worldwide and earned the duo a World Music Award for Best Selling German Band. After releasing five more successful albums between 1999-2003, the duo again called it quits, this time for good.
