The American pop/rock singer Phillip Phillips rose to fame in 2012 after winning the American Idol competition. The 24-year old native of Albany, Georgia is known for his unorthodox singing style and technical abilities as a musician. This wasn't the first singing competition that Phillips won. In 2010, his band The Phillip Phillips band, that included his brother-in-law Benjamin Neil, won the 2010 edition of the "Albany Star". Following his victory on Idol, his coronation song, "Home" was released and became the most popular coronation song of all the past Idol winners. As part of his victory, Phillips was obliged to head straight to the studio to begin recording his debut album. That album, The World from the Side of the Moon was released in November of 2012. As is the case with most first release albums from singing competition contestants, the album did quite well peaking at #4 on the US Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart. The album contained the song "Home", which managed to reach #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart and selling over 5 million units. His follow-up album, Behind the Light (May - 2014), hit #7 on the Billboard Albums Chart. This Idol winner has shown that there is real talent to draw upon.
