Formed on September 17, 2011 in Kediri, East Java, Indonesia, the band Survivor is a trio consisting of long-time acquaintances Rozy on guitar and vocals, Andreas (or Andrew) on bass guitar, and Ademas on percussion. The band has also occasionally (during live performances) used a friend, Obbie, on vocals. Survivor's style is of the "grindcore" sub-genre of music, characterized by heavy distortion, dissonant guitars, a tempo that approaches warp speed, unavoidable, prominent bass lines, thundering bass drums and abrasive, often high-pitched vocals that range from guttural growls to glass shattering shrieks, and may or may not contain lyrics, or at least intelligible lyrics. Grindcore derived from mid-1980s bands such as Siege, Repulsion, Black Flag, Void and Motorhead, all of whom incorporated elements of heavy metal, hardcore punk and thrash metal, but played at breakneck speeds. The British grindcore band Napalm Death is generally given credit for "inventing" the sub-genre in the early 1980s. Grindcore even has several sub-sub-genres, usually labeled after the specific band's underlying theme, such as goregrind, electrogrind, noisegrind and pornogrind. Survivor began primarily playing for themselves and small groups of friends. As they became more proficient on both their instruments and with their stage presence, they began getting engagements at local clubs. Their discography to-date is limited, but they've continued to gain popularity in their native Indonesia, where the grindcore sub-genre is immensely popular. Some of Survivor's songs include "Kefasikan" (wickedness)", "Galau Lagi Ngetrend" (troubled), "Moral #1", and "Kami Ingin Di Selamatkan" (We Want the Dive).
