At a recent Troye Sivan show in New York, you could barely hear the star on stage because fans were singing along so loudly. Their voices were filled with passion – the sound of something truly meaningful being shared between artist and audience. Troye’s music creates those kind of feelings. It’s candid, poetic and radically catchy. An actor who’s had a role in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and other features, he’s probably better known as a singer who made a big mark on YouTube and started to put out irresistible EPS, including ‘TRXYE’ and ‘Wild.’ We fell hard for Troye’s music in 2015. Especially his videos. His ‘Blue Neighbourhood Trilogy,’ about the rigors of growing up, developing a sexual identity and making a place in the world, is gripping. Vevo recently hosted a premiere of the entire work at LA’s Hollywood Forever cemetery, and fans couldn’t have been more thrilled. When it came time for Troye to shoot his LIFT profiles, we had a blast. He tasted the ultimate mac ‘n’ cheese dish, got his nails artfully detailed, and wrestled with fans in a sumo suit. Nothing but fun. Celebrate the arrival of his ‘Blue Neighborhood’ album by checking out all of our pieces, and get prepared for some intimate performances, too.
Ontario native Alessia Cara became obsessed with music at age 10, when she learned to play guitar and fell hard for Amy Winehouse. A few years ago, a YouTube video of her take on the Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather” caught the eye of a record exec; it wasn’t long before she was signed to Def Jam. Smart move. In Alessia’s breakthrough smash, “Here,” her powerhouse voice rides a soulful groove on a track the singer calls an “anti-party anthem.” She says the song is all about “what a wallflower is thinking.” The song has definitely struck a chord with the Cara tribe: it’s been viewed more than 20 million times. It also helped propel Alessia to the winner’s circle in Vevo’s LIFT Fan Vote competition. We spent the day with her in NYC, doing everything from taking painting lessons to ice skating in Central Park to visiting Brooklyn’s Daptone studios. Dig into our exclusive profiles and performances – Alessia is a charmer with plenty to say.

Vevo’s LIFT program began in January of 2011 as a way of celebrating new talent. We pride ourselves on introducing emerging artists to a broader audience, and each LIFT cycle paints a detailed portrait so viewers get a grip on the artist’s creativity. Through exclusive interviews, behind-the scenes footage, video premieres, and great performances - all exclusive to the Vevo platform – we unite the artist and the audience. LIFT is powered by McDonald’s!
