Lots of moves for Matisyahu of late. He's changed his physical appearance, become an actor, and has dropped a record that has a big blast of hip-hop attitude. The new Spark Seeker doesn't really rupture the classic Matisyahu sound, but it does add another dimension, and it's ringing with positive spirit.
The same can be said for his role in The Possession, where he plays a Jewish exorcist trying to banish negative spirits from a young girl. The singer/actor has been speaking about inspiration for his new disc (he went to Israel for some of the sessions) and bent his love of reggae grooves to allow room for a more cosmopolitan vibe.
We spoke to him about both new projects.
