Swedish computer nerd Jonas Altberg (aka Basshunter) became an Internet phenomenon in the early 2000s with a handful of geek-friendly dance singles. Altberg began composing songs on his home computer in 1999, making them available to the general public via his website. They became a cult favorite, so much so that various clubs around Sweden started contacting Altberg with job offers. The first official Basshunter album, The Bassmachine, hit the Internet in 2004, and Altberg soon found himself entertaining offers from big-name record labels. He signed with Warner Bros. in 2006, and his sophomore album, LOL <(^^,)> peaked in the Top Five in Sweden. ~ Margaret Reges
