Purveyors of twee pop since 1996, this Glasgow band has built a loyal worldwide following for their chiming, candy-coated melodies, and amiably witty lyrics. Their 2001 debut album got a big boost when the venerable John Peel endorsed one of its tracks, and a follow-up two years later was supported by their first-ever world tour. The band broke thorugh in an even bigger way with their 2006 album, LET'S GET OUT OF THIS COUNTRY, which topped many critics' year-end best-of lists, and produced a minor hit with the title track. In 2009, the band signed with the beloved 4AD label, further cementing their status as one of the most popular indie bands.
