DJ superstar Carl Cox was born in Manchester, England in 1962. He began spinning records before he was a teenager, and bought his first pair of turntables at age 15. The fledging DJ first spun disco and then hip-hop through the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, before joining the acid house explosion later in that decade. With the help of his signature three-deck set up, Cox became one of the foremost DJs of Britain’s house scene, in demand internationally as a DJ, producer and remixer throughout the ‘90s and 2000s, releasing a prolific stream of mixes and playing raves, clubs, and festivals all over the world. One of Cox’s most notable attributes is his refusal to be pigeonholed by genre; one might hear breakbeat, rare groove, Italian house, and hip hop in his techno and house-oriented sets.
