Chairlift have dubbed their sound "25th century folktronica," which adequately describes their mixture of warm, basic melodies and future-sounds. Aaron Pfenning and Caroline Polachek formed the band at the University of Colorado with the single intention of making music to soundtrack amusement park haunted houses. In 2006, after self-releasing the DAYLIGHT SAVINGS EP, they moved operations to Brooklyn, where they picked up a third member, Patrick Wimberly. Their Kanine Records debut LP, DOES YOU INSPIRE YOU, came out in September 2008. Chairlift's cool, edgy fusion of space rock and indie has earned them collaborations with MGMT and the use of one of their songs ("Bruises") in an iPod TV ad.
