Blues harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi in 1944, and after high-school years in Memphis, he migrated to Chicago, becoming a familiar face at the city's blues haunts and sitting in with some of the era's top performers. After his debut LP, 1967's Stand Back! Here Comes Charley Musselwhite's South Side Band, became a standard on San Francisco's underground radio, Musselwhite played the Fillmore Auditorium and never returned to the Windy City. He played steadily in Bay Area bars and, with his faithfulness to classic blues stylings, earned the respect of his legendary mentors. It wasn't until the late '80s that Musselwhite began touring worldwide to rave notices. He became busier than ever and continued releasing records to critical acclaim. ~ Dan Forte & Al Campbell
