An Australian band whose primal, jagged assault suggests the mingled sound of a number of noted punk and post-punk outfits from the '80s (ranging from Hüsker Dü and the Wipers to Sonic Youth), Deaf Wish were formed in Melbourne in May 2007. Not long after forming, the band recorded ten songs that they self-released on CD-R. In 2009 they signed with Australian label Stained Circles and issued Reality & Visions. Mercy arrived in 2010, and the band went on hiatus. They reconvened in 2014 and recorded an EP, St. Vincent's, for Sub Pop, with the full-length Pain dropping in 2015. ~ Mark Deming
