Dir En Grey
Theatrical, dark, and glittering, Japanese modern metalheads Dir En Grey have fulfilled the promise of “nü-metal” with an international spin. Formed in the late '90s, the band came out of the colorful, glam-influenced “visual kei” scene, but rapidly evolved into an experimental metal act, incorporating funk, industrial, and glam into their sound. Though singing primarily in Japanese, agile vocalist Kyo attracted international attention with his host of vocal personalities. By 2005, the band was playing in Europe, and, in 2006, they joined Korn’s Family Values tour in the U.S., where they were warmly received.
