Donald Fagen was one of the two masterminds behind Steely Dan, the seminal jazz-pop band. Fagen's solo work has been a continuation of the band's work of the early '80s,with his carefully constructed and arranged, intricately detailed pop songs that are more substantial than their stylish surface may indicate. The Nightfly (1982) covered the same ground as the last two Steely Dan albums, yet surpassed them in terms of ambition and achievement. 1993's Kamakiriad had some success but was overshadowed by a successful Steely Dan tour. After Steely Dan albums in 2000 and 2003, Fagen released Morph the Cat (2006) and embarked on his first solo tour. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
