New York City-based outfit Dope formed in 1997, and cultivated a sound that drew inspiration from both heavy metal and industrial music in the vein of Ministry and Nine Inch Nails. The band takes its name from Edsel and Simon Dope, the two brothers who founded the group, though they also reportedly sold drugs to buy musical equipment and finance their demos. Dope’s debut, FELONS AND REVOLUTIONARIES, was released in 1999. Despite numerous line-up changes, the band has toured and recorded regularly throughout the 2000s, releasing GROUP THERAPY (’03) and NO REGRETS (’09), among others. Dope’s profile has been raised significantly by their soundtrack work. Songs by the band have appeared in SCREAM 3, THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, WWE events, and GUITAR HERO III.
