Formed in 1991, Fear Factory combined death metal with industrial, creating an overpowering sound that made them underground favorites. Burton Bell (vocals) and Dino Cazares (guitar) have been central to the band since its inception. Fear Factory released their debut album, Soul of a New Machine, on Roadrunner in 1992, and their second full-length album of new material, Demanufacture, arrived in 1995. They reconvened in 1998 for Obsolete, a record that fit seamlessly into the growing alternative metal boom. Fear Factory moved to the Liquid 8 label for 2004's Archetype, and the equally merciless Transgression followed in 2005. After a hiatus, Bell and Cazares re-formed the band, which released Mechanize in 2010, followed by the concept album The Industrialist in 2012. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
