Sweden's Ghost (formerly known as Ghost B.C. in the U.S. for legal reasons) is a theatrical hard rock band. While Ghost's notorious image draws from black metal, their melodic, often hooky music is inspired by sources such as Alice Cooper, Blue Öyster Cult, and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The band's anonymous musicians, known only as "Nameless Ghouls," are disguised under monks' cowls, save for their lead singer. Known only as Papa Emeritus, he is adorned as an anti-Pope in skull-face makeup, cardinal robes, a miter, and thurible. As a result, their concert appearances, videos and recordings consistently cause controversy. Their popularity is global; their recordings chart internationally. Ghost recieved its first Grammy nomination for 2015's Meliora. ~ Thom Jurek
