As Nuwine, Houston, Texas native Maurice Williams was a deep-voiced spiritual rapper who recorded several albums, many of which were self-released, during the 1990s and 2000s. Later on, he went secular as Wine-O, and peaked commercially in 2006 with "Pop My Trunk," a single that was a regional underground hit and then registered on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Shortly thereafter, he became professionally and personally involved with then-fledgling rapper Iggy Azalea -- a relationship that soured to the point of a legal battle settled in 2015. At some point prior to that, Williams started going by Jefe Wine, and then by Hefe Wine due to rampant pronunciation issues. Among a handful of singles Williams released during the mid-2010s were "Beautiful Liar," "10 Brix" (featuring Gucci Mane), "Manzito," and "Heaven." ~ Andy Kellman
