As a violinist, Jenny Scheinman became a vital part of the Brooklyn avant and creative jazz scene following her arrival in New York from California in 1999, and she worked with everyone from Marc Ribot to Myra Melford to longtime collaborator Bill Frisell. As a singer/songwriter she also developed a unique sound that incorporated her jazz and avant-garde sensibilities into a somewhat more accessible format, making her the toast of two different camps of the New York music world. Scheinman returned to California to raise a family in 2012, but her creative output was undiminished. ~ Jim Allen
