The co-founder and bass player of X, one of America’s original leading punk bands, John Doe pursued an impressive, if generally commercially unrewarding solo career. Doe formed X in 1977 with his future wife Exene Cervenka, releasing a series of hugely influential albums over the next ten years. Doe’s 1990 debut, MEET JOHN DOE, featured some superb, if heavily produced, music, and the minor college hit "Let's Be Mad." Doe reunited with Cervenka to reform X for 1994's HEY ZEUS!, before forming the John Doe Thing, who made their recording debut with 1995’s KISSINGSOHARD. In the late-'90s, his acting career took off, including acclaimed roles in BOOGIE NIGHTS and on the television series ROSWELL. He continued to record into the '00s, releasing records on fighting young indie labels like Yep Roc.
