After the breakup of heavy metallists Overcast in 1998, bassist, leader, and main songwriter Mike D'Antonio immediately began looking for new members to form a new band. Hooking up with drummer Adam Dutkiewitz, vocalist Jesse Leach, and guitarist Joel Stroetzel, Massachusetts' Killswitch Engage was soon formed. A combination of metal and hardcore, the band issued a self-titled full-length shortly after their formation, which led to a contract with the larger Roadrunner. Their subsequent work over the 2000s and 2010s made metalcore a familiar name, selling millions of records and winning many awards, including the commercial and critical success of their breakout, 2004's The End of Heartache. ~ Greg Prato
