Pennsylvania-born tumbleweed folkie Langhorne Slim seems like a figure out of the distant rural past. His bluegrass-inflected rootsy stomp is certainly not designed for pop radio airplay. But what Slim lacks in glamour or polish, he makes up for with a true grit informed by an audible sense of musical history. His quavering, plaintive voice complements his fleet-fingered guitar picking and unadorned arrangements with the hard-won authenticity of someone twice his age. No tourist in a second-hand straw hat, Slim’s the real deal.
