Raised in the suburbs of New York City, the diminutive yet powerfully voiced R & B singer Lil’ Mo’s first success came via Missy Elliott, who gave Mo a featured spot on the remix of her hit single “Hot Boyz.” After more collaborations with rappers like Jay-Z, Mo’s first solo LP, BASED ON A TRUE STORY, was released in 2001, eventually going gold. Over the next several years, successful partnerships with MCs such as Ja Rule made her a go-to artist for vocal cameos. However, her follow-up full-lengths failed to maintain momentum, and she endured public fallings out with several of her peers. Mo emerged in 2009 with a new label and a solo album, entitled TATTOOS & ROSES.
