In 2004, Melody Gardot was a 19-year-old fashion student when she was struck by an SUV while on her bicycle and seriously injured. After learning to play piano as part of her physical therapy, Gardot began writing and recording her own material. Following a self-released demo, Gardot signed with Verve Records and released her debut album, Worrisome, in early 2008. Due to her injuries, Gardot is hypersensitive to light and sound, and cannot sit on a standard piano bench, but it has not stopped her from recording or touring. Her followup, My One and Only Thrill went plaintum in European countries as did 2012's The Absence. She returned stateside to record 2015's Currency Of Man with producer Larry Klein.
