Christian rock band, the Newsboys, was originally formed in Mooloolaba, Australia in 1985, before relocating to America in 1987. Based in Nashville, their 1988 debut album, READ ALL ABOUT IT, was followed by HELL IS FOR WHIMPS (1990) and BOYS WILL BE BOYZ (1991) for the Star Song label. A series of hits including "Shine" and "Not Ashamed," attracted the attention of Virgin Records, who licensed the album TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER (1996). In 1997 lead singer John James left to develop his solo career and the band regrouped and promoted Peter Furler to guitar and lead vocals for 1998’s STEP UP TO THE MICROPHONE. After switching to Sparrow Records in the late '90s, the band maintained a successful recording and touring schedule into the '00s.
