Though journalistic shorthand often finds Nickelback dubbed "the Canadian Creed," the band found success on its own terms right from the start with the 2000 debut album The State. It may be true that the band's heavy guitars, pounding drums, and dramatic vocals are in line with the Creed approach, and like that band, Nickelback are equally indebted to the heavy metal and hard rock heroes of the '70s. As with many other 21st century hard rockers, however, Nickelback fit catchy pop sensibilities into their sonic onslaught, ensuring as enthusiastic a reception from radio as they receive from their rabid fan base. ~ Rovi Staff
