Michael Angelakos initially conceived 2008’s CHUNK OF CHANGE EP as a Valentine’s Day gift to his girlfriend. After he distributed it among friends and peers at his university the resulting buzz led to an almost immediate deal with FrenchKiss Records. Angelakos fleshed out his band to include Ian Hultquist, Ayad al Adhamy, Jeff Apruzzese, and Nate Donmoyer, and the Passion Pit’s sound quickly incorporated layers of joyous synths and samples, juxtaposed against more introspective lyrics. In 2009, Angelakos and co. released their anticipated full-length, MANNERS, and embarked on a nearly six-month-long worldwide tour.
