Pop-oriented contemporary R&B group Rawyals features vocalists Bel Cabrera, Ariel Nicholson, and Asia Shabazz. Brought together by Kedar Massenburg, the industry veteran who previously played a major role in the emergence of D'Angelo and Erykah Badu, the New York City-based group was signed to Massenburg Media label and debuted in May 2015 with "King Me." The midtempo single resembled an assertive mix of Beyoncé, Ciara, and unjustly neglected late-2000s group Electrik Red. A version of the song featured a timely guest verse from Fetty Wap, whose "Trap Queen" was riding high at the time. A Rawyals EP, In the Raw, was issued later in the year. ~ Andy Kellman
