One of Italy’s most successful DJs, Robert Miles began his musical life as a standard house dj, albeit one who built his own studio to cobble his creations. After a number of minor successes in Italy, he began to dabble in the new field, evocatively dubbed "dream house." With the 1996 single "Children," which blended a basic trance sound with strings, guitar, and its famous piano hook, Miles found an international hit, as well as his legacy. His debut record DREAMLAND continued the rise as he was named Best International Newcomer at the BRIT awards. Over the following years, Miles continued to seek new electronica ground, incorporating breakbeats and elements of jungle, and collaborating with Trilok Gurtu and Bill Laswell on the disarmingly downbeat ORGANIK.
