Born in Australia, alternative singer/songwriter Scott Matthew is graced with a melancholy, David Bowie-esque croon and a touch of theatricality. He worked with a handful of bands before moving to Brooklyn, New York, in the late '90s, teaming up with Morrissey's former bandmate Spencer Cobrin to release an EP under the name Elva Snow in 2002. Following that, Matthew devoted his energy to working on various soundtrack projects, getting a big break in 2006 when four of his songs were prominently featured on the soundtrack of John Cameron Mitchell's award-winning film Shortbus. Those tracks, together with a passel of new songs, were included on Matthew's self-titled debut, which was released on the Defend Music label in 2008. Matthew's voluminously titled sophomore effort arrived in 2009. ~ Margaret Reges
