Portland's Starfucker -- later stylized STRFKR -- made their reputation with a glammed-out live show involving costumes and more dancing than the average indie rock gig. Primitive keyboards and breezy, danceable rhythms characterized their sound, recalling '80s electropop and dance music, albeit with a haze of lo-fi druggy psychedelia on top of it all. Singer John Hodges, late of Sexton Blake, kept his breathy, high delivery in place through a series of lineup changes and sound tweaks over their first few albums, which never strayed from danceable indie electronic. ~ Tom Forget & Marcy Donelson
