Despite their Florida origins, Trivium is closer to the driving, classic power metal of Iron Maiden or Metallica’s muscular thrash than the clinical death metal so common in the Sunshine State. Their formation in 2000 was followed by a rapid ascendancy that landed them a co-headline spot at 2006's Download Festival at England’s Castle Donnington. Opting for cleaner, sung vocals more often than the harsh screams of their contemporaries, Trivium has hewn close to traditional metal while adding subsequently with metalcore heaviness and even prog and hard rock tendencies. Through several lineup changes the band has undergone numerous stylistic ones as well. This has led to criticism from some longtime fans, but has earned them new converts.
